Pascal's triangle

  

First off, let me say that Pascal's Triangle is not a musical instrument.

Second of all, Pascal's Triangle will blow your mind. I hope.

Pascal's triangle has many patterns. First if you add all the numbers in the row together, you get the powers of 2. The first row would be 2 to the zero power which is equal to 1. Any number with the power of zero is equal to one. Then the next row has 2 to the first power, so that is equal to 2. And the pattern continues down the line. Another pattern with Pascal's Triangle is toe powers of 11. The first 5 rows are pretty explanatory, while any row after that gets somewhat confusing. The first row is the answer of eleven to the zero power. The second row is the answer to 11 to the first power, which is 11. Then on the 5 row, eleven is raised to the 4th power and that is equal to 14641. The pattern goes on from there.

Another pattern on Pascal's Triangle is if you go down to the second row and look at the second "one" going down diagonally to the left, you will notice that the entire set of counting numbers is there is counting number order. And the diagonal row below that is the triangular numbers. Triangular numbers are the numbers that can be formed by making a triangle. If you ever wanted to organize objects, you would put one on the table and the center of the first object would be above the point where the bottom two objects touch. Then you would have 3 objects. You would continue doing that until you got bored or just ran out of objects. Another way to use the pyramid idea is in swimming. You would start off with, say 200 yards, then a rest. Continue on to 100 yards, rest. Then split the previous length in half and swim that. That is in a way, like triangular numbers. Because there is more on the bottom than on the top, it ends up looking like a triangle, even if the total lengths don't add up to exactly the triangular number.

So I just ranted about Pascal's Triangle for some time now, right? Well.......he actually didn't come up with this idea. The Chinese mathematicians came up with the idea of organizing numbers long, long before Blaise Pascal even was born. The Chinese organized the numbers into a right triangle and Pascal organized it onto an isosceles triangle. That's why he gets the credit: it was different than the old way of doing it.

The Beatles...50 years ago!

Today is February 9, 2014. What do you know about this date? Just the February 9th part. Maybe your Auntie Grizelda was born today or your estranged cat died on this date 5 years ago or was it the fact that the first Boeing 727 took off from a runway in 1963 or better yet...the greatest band of all time was introduced to America in 5 words: “Ladies and Gentlemen...The Beatles!!!” (Ed Sullivan on February 9 of 1964. ) Yes I mean it. If they had never come to America, the world of music would still be hopelessly lost to Tommy Dorsey and Perry Como, (not that they are bad or anything). With just those five words for an introduction, they became the greatest and best band  that America and the world had ever heard. These four young boys from Liverpool became the subject of the Times! (That reminds me of a joke: What do you call Liverpool during a drought? Liverpuddle! Sorry for the humor.) 

If you look at the calendar for February of 1964, you will notice that The Beatles got introduced to America exactly 50 years ago! Like exactly to the day. I don't know the time, but these young men shaped the world of music, controversy and politics. 

The sound of The Beatles was NEW, UPBEAT and DIFFERENT. That is why the kids liked it. 

They also created a huge uproar with their album Abbey Road. Why you might ask. If you listen to the Beatles a lot like me, it seems like a “duh” sort of answer. If you don’t really listen to the Beatles, then here is the answer. Abbey Road was the start of the “Paul is dead” rumors. John was in white to symbolize the preacher/priest. Ringo, in black represented the embalmer/undertaker. Paul was dressed in a business suit and barefoot because people thought that shoes weren't needed in heaven. George is in jeans to symbolize the grave digger: didn't want to get a suit dirty by digging the grave. There is a licence plate that says “28IF.” That was to mean that Paul would have been 28 if he lived and if you connect the dots on the back of the album it makes a 3: 3 remaining Beatles. Paul said after the release of the album that it wasn't true and he was alive and healthy, thank you very much! 

Yeah: Lots of unrest among fans. When John was with Yoko, they had many political views together. But to make a long story short, John was killed by something he strictly opposed: violence. The Beatles were the greatest band of their age and of today as well.

Math Humor!

Goldwin and snow

I didn't know what else to write about so I am writing about my dog and that rare thing called snow. Well...not really writing about it. I just have a bunch of cute pics. So yeah!!!!

Easy to do food

Home made butterfingers

Ingredients: 

one pound candy corn 

one pound creamy peanut butter

one pound melting chocolate

1) Place jar of peanut butter in the microwave oven and heat until melted until melted

2)Put the pound of candy corn in a large glass bowl and heat in the microwave at 30 second intervals until melted. Stir after every 30 second interval. 

3) Pour the melted peanut butter into the melted candy corn and stir well and quickly!!!!

4) Have a pre-greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan ready. Pour candy corn/peanut butter mixture into cake pan. Spread and flatten. Cut the candy corn/peanut butter mixture into desired sizes. 

5) Melt the pound of melting chocolate in a large bowl. 

6) Dip the newly cut squares into the chocolate. Let cool on counter for 20 minutes then they are ready to eat.

Chicken Frito Dinner:

1 Rotisserie Chicken
1 can hot green chili
1 24 oz bag of Frito's, lightly salted
1 can cream of Celery condensed soup
Shredded cheese

1) Take the skin of the chicken and discard the skin and bones. Break meat into smaller parts.
2) In a separate bowl, combine can of chili, entire can of soup, and water. Fill up the soup can with water. That is the exact amount that you'll need. Mix well.

3) In a casserole dish, layer chicken, soup mixture, Frito's and cheese, in that order. It should make 2 nice layers. On the last layer, put on enough cheese to make the top cheesy.
4) Put in oven at 350* and bake uncovered until cheese is melted.
5) Serve immediately.

"Dump-It" Cake:
1 can of crushed pineapple in own juice
1 can of Cherry pie filling
1 box yellow cake mix
crushed pecans
Butter

1) Pour pineapple into 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Smooth out. Pour pie filling on top. Smooth. Make sure to try to keep it on top of the pineapple.
2) Pout entire box of cake mix over the pie filling. Smooth.
3) Put crushed pecans on top of the cake mix.
4) Thinly slice butter and place in a grid like fashion over the pecans.
5) Put in oven and bake at 350* for about an hour, depending on your oven.

"Robin's Nests"
chow mein noodles
chocolate chips
butter
marshmallow creme
Whoppers robin's eggs

This recipe is approximate.

1) Turn on stove to medium heat.
2)Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large pot. Add 2 (12 oz) bags chocolate chips.
3)Mix in with the butter until melted. Then add half jar of marshmallow creme to the mixture. KEEP STIRRING!
4) When everything is mixed, add chow mein noodles, stir in the chocolate and keep adding noodles until there is not much extra chocolate left. We used about 1 pound of noodles.
5)While it is still hot, start spooning the noodles covered in chocolate onto wax paper. About one tablespoon of the noodle mixture is good for a nest.
6) Add Robin's eggs to your liking and design. 

"Robin's nests" easy recipe

1lb chocolate bark

Dried chow mien noodles

Whoppers robins eggs or cadbury eggs

1) Melt chocolate bark in microwave. 

2) Add noodles until all chocolate is used up. 

3) Spoon onto parchment paper 

4) Style eggs as necessary 

Easy Chicken Tenders

Progresso Italian bread crumbs

Grated parmesan

Cayenne pepper

Chicken breasts

1) Cut chicken breast into strips.

2) Mix breadcrumbs, cayenne pepper, and parmesan in a bowl.

3) Coat chicken breasts in mixture. 

4) Cook on a greased cookie sheet at 425 for 30-40 minutes until internal temp is 165. Turn every 15 min.

5) Serve with your choice dipping sauce

Honey mustard dipping sauce

1/3 cup mustard

1/4 cup mayonaise

less than 1/4 cup honey

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Cayenne pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients together with mixer. Store in fridge for up to 2 weeks.
